Unfortunately, due to the ongoing restrictions on meeting up we have taken the difficult decision to cancel this year’s 3 Rivers Clean Up. There will be some river clean up sessions happening over the next few months, but they will not take the usual format. Sessions that are available to book will appear at the bottom of this page. We hope that we will be back and raring to go in June 2022!
There are still plenty of ways to get involved and many groups running sessions. Have a look around our site for more information.
There are a lot of wonderful volunteers out there who help keep our rivers clean, from the Friends of the River Pool to Nature’s Gym to Thames21. Part of the reason our rivers are so lovely, is down to this dedicated bunch of people. This is usually the time of year when we, along with a number of partners, would be great ready for the the 3 Rivers Clean Up. Unfortunately, with the way things are currently, we are not sure if this will be able to go ahead. This is a great shame because not only is it great fun, it is a lovely way to meet people and also get to see parts of the Borough you may not know about and experience from a new angle. Thankfully, local resident and very active volunteer Lawrence is here to help. On his blog Mental Mapping he has created a ‘virtual tour’ of Lewisham’s Rivers.
The tour takes in the rivers Ravensbourne, Quaggy and Pool along with their associated tributaries. You will get an idea of the flora and geomorphology along the rivers along with the type of great work the volunteers do.
If you are keen to get involved in volunteering along the rivers, keep an eye out on the following blogs, where we will post updates information about events you’ll be able to take part in – hopefully in the not too distance future!
We are beginning to make plans for 3 Rivers Clean Up 2019. We hope that this year will be a successful as our previous events. We haven’t finalised the dates yet, but rest assured we will be back sometime in June! Keep and eye out on this blog, and if you would like to take part in an event, please contact us, or visit the partners page.
Our first 3 Rivers Clean Up planning session will be taking place later this week. We hope that by the end o it we will have confirmed the dates for this year’s festival. We hope that will be able to overlap with London Rivers Week. This will be the 10th year that we have been running this project so look our for some fun anniversary events and celebrations.
The 3RiversCleanUp is a three-week long intensive annual volunteer campaign to improve the rivers Ravensbourne, Pool and Quaggy in South East London.
Take your family, your friends or just yourself on an urban wilderness adventure this summer and discover the rivers and the nature they support. Join others in removing harmful rubbish and invasive plant species so as to improve the habitats for both flowers and animals. Learn about nature, about the quality of water and why it’s important and also join in with other associated events such as wildlife habitat management, pond dipping and nature walks, most of which will be suitable for all ages. All events are FREE.
If you would like to get involved have a look at the events calendar over the coming months to find out details of event locations and contact details of the event organisers. Events will start to be populated once dates have been finalised. If you would like a bespoke event for your company, please free to contact us and we will do our best to arrange something.
Events are free but some require pre-booking. If there is heavy rain an event may be cancelled at short notice due to the risk of flash flooding. Please check with the event organiser if the weather is bad.
The first planning meeting for the 2017 3 Rivers Clean Up was held on 8 February. We were joined by representatives from Nature’s Gym, Thames21, Friends of Sutcliffe Park and QWAG. This year the festival will be held between 3 June – 24 June. Watch this space for more information!
